BIO:
Sterling E. Freeman is a native of Little Rock, Arkansas and officially became a resident of North Carolina in 1992. Sterling is the Executive Director of Wildacres Leadership Initiative, which focuses on intentional community building through leadership development and collaboration. The initiative works with emerging leaders across the state of North Carolina who represent multiple areas of diversity. As well as serving as Executive Director, Sterling is a member of the 2001-2003 William C. Friday Fellows group, and a proud member of the alumni community -- Fellows Action Network.

In addition to directing WLI, Sterling is a facilitator who works with small groups and boards on issues of organizational development and power, privilege and oppression.

Sterling has demonstrated his strong commitment to peer mentoring through his work with the Durham Scholars Program, a mentorship program with Durham inner-city youth, and one-on-one mentoring and life skills training with African-American male prisoners. Sterling holds a Master of Divinity from the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, a BA in Economics from Davidson College and certificates in business strategy and economics from the London School of Economics. Sterling has been a Christian minister for twelve years. He is on the Board of the Durham Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., a member of the Durham Roundtable and as a volunteer at, Durham Academy, his daughter’s school.
