Frank H. Alston Scholarship

In 1977, during the planning of the Hillside Class of 1952’s 25th Reunion, a scholarship committee was formed as part of the community outreach program. Classmates, both locally and nationally made contributions to fund this effort.

As a testimonial to “Prof” Frank Howard Alston, a longtime educator and administrator of Hillside High School, the class chairman, in conjunction with the classmates, agreed to name the class of 1952’s scholarship fund in his honor while meeting at the Durham Civic Center on June 30, 1977. Thus, the “Frank Howard Alston” Scholarship fund was established. Since 1977, an annual scholarship has been awarded to a Hillside High School senior that has demonstrated exceptional scholarship during their high school career.  The late Frank Howard Alston was a member of the Durham (NC) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
